Everywoman

2006, Acrylic/Gouache, 40x30cm

In 2007 this painting became the symbol of a research into the psychological impact of genetic breast and ovarian cancer at the Leiden University Medical Centre. In 2011 the painting was used on the cover of the research publication. Joel Vos said: 'To me this piece of art shows the different faces of life that people can be confronted with, for instance when they receive genetic counselling. It is the visualisation of a dual attitude, in which one's light-coloured need for certainty contrasts with the dark-coloured uncertainty of reality.'
